community MINISTRy

“Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.”  Deuteronomy 15:10

Lebanon First UMC disciples are involved in numerous ministries both within and outside the walls of the church.  “Community focused ministries” give us many opportunities to carry the love of Jesus into the world.

Join us as we seek to Love God. Love others.  And change our world.

King's Closet. Located at 507 W. St. Louis St, just two doors east of the church, King’s Closet is a thrift store that offers men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and a great variety of household items. Donations are sorted and categorized by dedicated volunteers and are offered for sale on the first Friday after the 3rd of each month from 10 am to 2 pm. Proceeds from King’s Closet fund a number of other ministries in the community. Cle Betts and Helen Renfro organize the King’s Closet ministry. King's Closet always needs shopper and volunteers!

Lebanon First UMC is a year-long generous contributor to the Community Food Pantry. During the summer season, the church promotes the special collection of "kid-friendly" foods that children can prepare during their vacation. The church also collects school supplies in advance of the start of school in August.

Several of our members volunteer to stock the Pantry and distribute food.

You can always bring donations to Sunday worship or during office hours, 9 am - 1 pm, Monday through Friday. Contact the office to learn how to volunteer at the Food Pantry.
The City of Lebanon hosts several community events on the "brick street" (W. St. Louis St.) during the year. One of the most popular is the Fall Festival, replete with craft and food booths. To raise money for mission, LFUMC hosts the Bread of Life booth. Members make breads of all types as donations. To learn more about helping with the booth or making some bread, contact the church office.

Find out more about the Fall Festival and other Lebanon events on the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce website.

Lebanon First UMC is an important part of the annual Vacation Bible School, which rotates locations among area churches.

Our Congregational Care Ministers are part of the visitation team that calls on members and friends in their homes, hospitals, and long term care facilities.
LFUMC is very active in outreach during the Christmas season. We help families with gifts and collect mittens, scarves and hats for Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House in East St. Louis.

Every November, dedicated volunteers make and serve a full Thanksgiving dinner with all the "fixins" to anyone and everyone who wants to sit down for a meal with us in Fellowship Hall.
